The S530 ultrasonic leak detector offers an efficient and cost effective means of identifying gas leaks much faster than the traditional and messy soap bubble method. Since all pressurised air/gas leaks produce a characteristic harmonic frequency, the sensor in the S530 can detect leaks from up to 8m away. This detection is displayed using a coloured incremental bargraph and through the heterodyne principle, can be made audible through the supplied noise cancelling headphones. With a little practice, operators become very efficient in identifying even the smallest leaks and then precisely locating them using successively finer sensor tips and the inbuilt laser pointer. The S530 ultrasonic leak detector is also effective in hard to reach, out of sight areas through the detachable sensor and extension cord that allows access for testing in the tightest of enclosures.

In addition to detecting pressurised air or gas leaks, the same principle can be applied to test bearings for early signs of failure as they can also exhibit similar ultrasound frequencies that the S530 will detect.
There is an optional ultrasonic emitter that can be a useful addition to the standard kit for detection of leaks from unpressurised pipes, vessels and enclosures. This allows for testing of welds, joints and seals without the cost or contamination issues of actual gas testing. The emitter can also be useful as a training tool for new users.
